IllustrationTate McRae's new era is off to a flying start. Housewife, the first single from her upcoming fourth album, has gone to No. 1 in six countries within days of its 15 October release.
Where it is No. 1
- Australia: debuts at No. 1 on the ARIA Singles Chart, her first No. 1 there and her sixth top 10, beating the No. 2 peak of Greedy in 2023
- Austria
- Germany
- Ireland
- Norway
- Switzerland
It has also reached the top 10 in Finland, Lithuania, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden and the UK. In the US, it has already climbed to No. 21 on Pop Airplay.
The Hot 100 question
The Billboard Hot 100 dated 31 October will be the first to count a full week of Housewife. Midweek forecasts tipped it for a top-two debut, which would be the highest solo entry of her career, with Ella Langley's long-running Choosin' Texas seen as the favourite to hold the top spot. Billboard publishes the new top 10 this week.
Why it is working
The song arrived with a carefully built rollout: a Lollapalooza Easter egg in August, a Tonight Show appearance where she described it as a song about a woman who cannot be contained, and a glossy video shot in the south of France. That buzz has turned straight into streams around the world. Read the full story of the single here: https://mediamarvels.in/news/tate-mcrae-housewife-new-era-fourth-album.
