Clayface tops the US box office with $24 million, narrowly beating Nathan Fielder's You Can See Everything
DC Studios' R-rated body-horror film Clayface opened at No. 1 in North America with about $24 million, covering most of its reported $40 million budget in three days. A24's documentary You Can See Everything was close behind with $19.5 million.
IllustrationDC's riskiest film yet has opened at No. 1. Clayface, Warner Bros. and DC Studios' R-rated body-horror take on the Batman villain, took about $24 million in North America over the weekend of 23 to 25 October 2026, according to Box Office Mojo estimates.
This weekend's top five
- Clayface: $24.0 million (new)
- You Can See Everything: $19.5 million (second weekend, up 25%)
- Wildwood: about $11 million to $11.6 million (new)
- Street Fighter: $8.6 million (down 72%)
- Wicker: $5.75 million (new)
A narrow win
Clayface opened in 3,458 theatres and took $10.6 million on Friday, but it dipped sharply over the weekend. On Sunday it was actually beaten by You Can See Everything, which kept climbing as it expanded nationwide. The film landed near the bottom of pre-release tracking, which ranged from $23 million to $33 million.
Why $24 million still works
Clayface cost a reported $40 million, a fraction of a typical superhero budget, so it is already more than halfway to its production cost after three days. That matters for DC after Supergirl, which opened to about $37 million this summer on a $170 million budget and became the franchise's biggest disappointment.
The film
Directed by James Watkins, Clayface stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, an actor whose transformation into the shape-shifting villain is played as full body horror, with Naomi Ackie co-starring. It is the third film in James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe and opened internationally two days earlier, on 21 October. Indian audiences can catch it in cinemas now.
What to watch
Clayface has the Halloween weekend ahead, which should suit a horror film. Its second-weekend hold will show whether DC's smaller, stranger projects can stand beside its tentpoles.
