Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone start shooting a grand King song in Mumbai today, with Vaibhavi Merchant choreographing

One of the most anticipated songs of the year goes on floors today. Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone are set to begin filming a grand song sequence for King in Mumbai from Monday, 26 October 2026, according to a report by Variety India.

What we know about the song

1. The shoot is planned to run for about a week in Mumbai.
2. The film's ensemble cast is expected to feature in the number.
3. Vaibhavi Merchant is choreographing, her eighth collaboration with Shah Rukh. Their last was Jawan.
4. The team had first considered shooting it in South Africa before deciding to build it at home in Mumbai.

The sequence also marks Deepika's return to the set after welcoming her second child.

A sixth outing for the pair

King is Shah Rukh and Deepika's sixth film together, a partnership that began with Om Shanti Om and produced Chennai Express, Happy New Year, Pathaan and Jawan. Their songs together, from Besharam Rang to Jhoome Jo Pathaan, have been among the most-watched Hindi film songs of the last few years, which is why this number is already being treated as a key part of the film's marketing.

The pair already shot a romantic song on a beach in Cape Town earlier this year. Leaked clips from that schedule went viral, and director Siddharth Anand asked fans not to share them.

Shah Rukh plays a feared assassin, and the film marks Suhana Khan's theatrical debut. The cast also includes Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Jaideep Ahlawat, Jackie Shroff, Raghav Juyal and Abhay Verma.

King is Shah Rukh's first theatrical release since Dunki in 2023 and opens in cinemas on Thursday, 24 December 2026.
