Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana: Part One has its streaming plan in place before it even reaches cinemas. Producer Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios has partnered with JioHotstar to make the film available in India on a pay-per-view basis once its exclusive theatrical run ends. The announcement came on Thursday, 22 October 2026, two weeks before the film opens worldwide on Thursday, 5 November 2026, including in IMAX 3D. What has been announced Viewers in India will be able to buy access to the film on JioHotstar after the theatrical window, rather than watching it as part of a regular subscription. JioHotstar says the film will play across supported devices in the highest quality the service offers. JioStar chairperson Nita M. Ambani called Ramayana one of India's greatest civilisational treasures. Malhotra said the film was made for the biggest screen possible, but that cinemas cannot reach every viewer in the country. What is still unknown The length of the theatrical window, the pay-per-view price and the date the film arrives on JioHotstar have not been announced. About the film Ramayana is a two-part live-action adaptation of Valmiki's epic, with a screenplay by Shridhar Raghavan. Ranbir Kapoor plays Rama, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, Yash plays Ravana, Sunny Deol plays Hanuman and Ravie Dubey plays Lakshman. It is co-produced with DNEG and Yash's Monster Mind Creations, with music by A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer, and releases in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and English. The film's Tamil single Ravana Thandavam, composed by Rahman and sung by Anirudh Ravichander and G.V. Prakash Kumar, came out on 20 October. Why it matters Pay-per-view is still rare for big Indian theatrical releases. If Ramayana works on this model, more large-scale films could follow the same route after their cinema runs.
