After weeks of rumours, JAY-Z has been confirmed as the Super Bowl LXI halftime headliner. The game is on 14 February 2027 at SoFi Stadium, where he just wrapped his JAY-Z30 shows. Date, broadcast details and the debate it has sparked.
IllustrationIt is official: JAY-Z will headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show. The announcement came on Monday, 26 October 2026, during the Dallas Cowboys versus Philadelphia Eagles game on ESPN's Monday Night Football.
Super Bowl LXI at a glance
- Date: Sunday, 14 February 2027
- Venue: SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California
- Broadcast: ESPN, ABC and Disney+, with mobile streaming on NFL+
- Halftime sponsor: Apple Music
Why the venue matters
SoFi Stadium is where JAY-Z just ended his two-night JAY-Z30 celebration, with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Blue Ivy joining him on stage. It also hosted Super Bowl LVI in 2022, when Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg led the halftime show. Fans had expected the announcement at the final SoFi show, but it came two days later.
The debate
JAY-Z's company, Roc Nation, has produced the halftime show since partnering with the NFL in 2019, choosing Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, The Weeknd, Rihanna, Usher, Kendrick Lamar and Bad Bunny. Critics online say he has effectively picked himself and point out he has not released a new album in years, according to Digital Music News. Supporters say a 30-year career in hip-hop makes him an obvious headliner.
Who could join him?
Guest speculation has started, with Beyoncé the most talked-about name. She headlined in 2013 and appeared at Super Bowl 50 in 2016. Nothing has been confirmed.
