Aditya Gadhvi distances himself from announcement at his Ahmedabad garba night, says his stage is for music and devotion
Gujarati folk singer Aditya Gadhvi says an announcement asking non-Hindus to leave his Navratri event in Ahmedabad was not his doing, and that his team and anchor were not consulted.
IllustrationGujarati folk star Aditya Gadhvi has publicly distanced himself from a stage announcement made during his Navratri programme in Ahmedabad this month.
What happened
The incident took place on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, at the Rang Morla ft. Aditya Gadhvi event at Savvana Party Plot on Shela Road. A video that spread on social media showed anchor and radio jockey Akash Trivedi asking Muslims and non-Hindus to leave the ground and referring to the Vishva Hindu Parishad. The announcement also shared a helpline number.
Gujarat VHP spokesperson Hitendrasinh Rajput told PTI that Bajrang Dal volunteers routinely visit garba events and ask organisers to keep non-Hindus out.
Aditya Gadhvi's response
In an Instagram post, Gadhvi described himself as an artist and a proud Hindu, and called Navratri the most sacred time of his year. He said:
1. The announcement was not his doing and not his message.
2. A group of people took over the backstage area and used his platform.
3. His team and the anchor were not consulted and were not involved.
4. People of different faiths have long joined garba together, and anyone who comes with love and respect for Maa Ambe is welcome in his circle.
He closed by saying his stage is for music and devotion.
Why it matters
Garba nights are among the biggest live-music events in India, and folk singers like Gadhvi draw crowds in the tens of thousands. This year, several garba events in Gujarat and Maharashtra saw disputes over who should be allowed in. For artists, the episode shows how quickly a performer can be associated with a message made on their stage by someone else.
