After years of its familiar red-and-pink icon, Apple Music has a brand-new look. Apple introduced the rebrand on 21 October 2026, and it is heading to iPhones, iPads and Macs with the next software update.
What changed at a glance
Announced: 21 October 2026
New logo: black and white, replacing the red colour scheme
New app icon: black on white in light mode, white on black in dark mode
New typeface: a bold, modern custom font
Creative idea: visuals made by sound
Rollout: with iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2, expected next week
The new logo and icon
The biggest change is colour, or the lack of it. The new Apple Music logo and app icon drop the red gradient for a clean black-and-white design. In the iOS 27.2 beta, the icon appears black on white in light mode and white on black in dark mode. Apple has not said whether colour will return later.
In its launch video, Apple showed the logo with colourful animations, so the brand will still have colour in motion, even if the icon on your home screen is monochrome.
Made by sound
Apple says the new visuals were made by sound. In the introduction video, a note was played through a container of water so the liquid moved at the frequency of the music, and those patterns became part of the new visual language. It is a neat idea for a music service: the brand is literally shaped by audio.
A new font
Apple Music also gets its own typeface, with a bold, modern feel that will show up across the app and Apple's marketing. Apple's Apple Music web page has already switched to the new style.
When will I see it?
The rebrand rolls out with Apple's next software releases, iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2, which are expected next week. The new logo had already been spotted in the third beta versions of both.
What about new features?
So far, the changes are visual and branding-related. Apple has not announced new listening features alongside the rebrand, so your library, playlists and settings will stay as they are.
Why this matters for artists
A new look is a good moment to check how your music shows up on Apple Music.
1. Refresh your artist image and banner in Apple Music for Artists so they suit the cleaner, monochrome design.
2. Make sure your cover art is high-resolution and readable at small sizes.
3. Pitch your next release through your distributor and Apple Music for Artists, and share your Apple Music link alongside Spotify and YouTube.
